Dear Great Lakes Land Trusts:

We are sending this message on behalf of netCorps, a nonprofit organization, which is announcing an exciting opportunity to apply for funding for technology advancement for land trusts in the Great Lakes Basin. Since funding for technological improvements is relatively rare, we hope you take advantage of this opportunity.

This invitation is only available to people within the Great Lakes Basin. Please accept our apologies if you have received this message and you are not eligible to take advantage of the program.

PROGRAM ANNOUNCEMENT:

netCorps is pleased to invite applications from U.S. and Canadian organizations working in the Great Lakes region wishing to build their technology capacity. In the past, we were only able to offer this assistance to Southeastern U.S. environmental organizations, so we are excited to expand our offering to another region this year.

This project, supported by the Mott Foundation's Conservation of Freshwater Ecosystems in North America program, will provide selected organizations with comprehensive technology plans, and assistance and funds to implement key technology priorities. Priority items funded in the past include websites, databases, computers, servers and more.

Since 2005, thirty organizations have participated in this project. Through this current application process, we'll be selecting up to fifteen more participating groups.

To obtain application materials, please send an email to buildcapacity at netcorps.org<mailto:buildcapacity at netcorps.org> and you will receive an automated reply with links to the application materials. Applications must be emailed or postmarked by October 24th, 2008 to be considered in this cycle.

netCorps is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 1996 to increase the capacity of environmental, social justice and community-based organizations to organize, advocate, and address social and environmental issues through the application of appropriate communication and information technology, training and assistance.

Since our inception, netCorps has provided technology planning, assistance and support services to hundreds of environmental, social justice and community-based organizations.

Our expertise includes but is not limited to:
Technology planning
Organizational needs assessment
Local area network setup
Software and hardware installation
One-on-one and group training
Internet connectivity
Database development and maintenance
Purchasing and donation assistance
Fundraising for technology
Basic website development
Advanced, dynamic website systems
Website, email and list hosting

Organizations interested in participating do not need to have any specific level of technology sophistication - in fact, groups that have a lower level of sophistication will probably benefit more from this project than groups with a high level of sophistication. While selected organizations will receive a great deal of time, support and resources through their participation in this project, groups must be able to dedicate time and resources as well.

Each participating group must agree to spend $1000 (U.S.) of their own funds on this project - this $1000 is a required "match" for the resources the Mott Foundation is making available through this project - resources valued at a minimum of $6,500. This $1000 match will be combined with an additional $2000 from netCorps; this money will be spent on hardware, software and services identified in each group?s technology plan and prioritized by each participating group.

"This project made it possible for us to get the design support we needed to create a more cost effective way to communicate with our members and prospective supporters in a timely manner," explains Trish Carothers, Director of Membership and Planned Giving for the Lowcountry Open Land Trust. "The grant was valued at $6500, but with the training that we received that gives us the capability to update our website and electronic newsletter in-house, I would say it is worth four times that amount."

Applications must be postmarked by
October 24th, 2008

A Microsoft Word version of the application form can be obtained by sending an email message to
