The responses were almost unanimous, thank you for sharing your
thoughts. Here's how the responses panned out; you can see the 4
questions at the end of the initial email (below)...
1. Yes, keep the group going. All respondents felt that it was
important.
2. Yes pursue a Conservation Catalyst Grant. Some felt that we
could apply this year, other felt next year.
3. Yes, create a steering committee. Most wanted to participate.
4. Most volunteered to be host land trust.
Re Steering Committee and Catalyst Grant. We may want to limit the
actual number of people; a 15 person steering committee will probably
encounter some serious efficiency and management issues. Perhaps there
can be a division of tasks: 1) a small steering committee that picks
topics (from the ones generated by the group) and plans the meetings;
2) a separate small Catalyst grant group. If we go this way and the
group thinks that it would useful, I'd be happy to serve on both.
Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated
.
David
(Quick FYI- the group is now a small part of my annual work plans here
at CLC so please don't feel too bad for me! I am glad there is so much
interest and willingness to roll up the sleeves.)

Hello all,
As you know, a few of us did a little brainstorming after Scenic
Hudson's meeting on 9/12 in Poughkeepsie. Here's a quick summary:
1. Keep the working group going; all felt that it is worthwhile
2. We ought to pursue a Conservation Catalyst grant from LTA
(Hudson Highlands Land Trust, Wallkill Valley Land Trust and Columbia
Land Conservancy expressed interest in making that happen)
3. That a steering committee should be created to help plan
meetings. (Hudson Highlands Land Trust, Wallkill Valley Land Trust and
Columbia Land Conservancy expressed interest in being part of a steering
committee). The committee could be comprised of 4-5 land trusts.
4. Additional topics were forwarded including- Conservation
Easement defense, conservation subdivisions, issues presented by gas and
other utility exploration and establishment, follow up session on
accreditation (ask accredited orgs in region to share experiences and
provide tips), solar and wind energy language in conservation easements,
CE drafting 101-601.
5. Frequency of meetings- probably 2-3 per year.
6. Generate a list of host land trusts (host meetings of group).
In order to get a better handle on where we're going as a group, please
take a moment to answer the following questions:
1. Keep the group going?
2. Pursue Conservation Catalyst grant?
3. Create a steering committee? Interested in taking part?
4. Interested in being a host land trust?
Feel free to respond to the entire group or send them to me. I am happy
to compile responses and ideas and report back to the group.
David
