Has your land trust ever struggled with deciding whether or not to accept a property?  Have you ever regretted accepting a conservation easement?  Do you think your land trust's project planning process could be improved but you're not sure where to start?

Learn how to take your selection criteria and evaluation processes to the next level.  Join your colleagues for a hands-on, interactive training that has an advanced focus to help you better protect freshwater resources in your service area.  This special training will teach you how to create customized acquisition criteria and project planning forms to better protect the lands you care for.

Schedule:
Held over two days, the first day will be a full day spent focusing on the Land Trust Alliance's Standards and Practices Curriculum for Evaluating and Selecting Conservation Projects.  You will learn how to determine what land or easement transactions are appropriate for your organization, how to develop and apply sound project selection criteria, and how to use data gathered from site visits for future baseline documentation reports and management plans.

The second day will only run in the morning, and it is optional.  Day 2 will focus on how watershed protection and climate change issues may affect your decision-making processes when determining what land and conservation easements you should accept.  During this half day event, you will learn how to customize your land selection criteria to focus on the protection of freshwater resources.  You'll also have an opportunity to discuss how land trusts can better interact and cooperate with watershed groups to further the protection of land and water resources.

The featured trainer for this intermediate-level education event is Judy Anderson of Community Consultants.  Some previous experience with land protection planning is strongly suggested, and you may attend one or both days.

Cost:
Because of generous support from the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation, the first day of this training is being offered for $65 per person to Land Trust Alliance members, or $85 per person to non-members.

The optional half day of training is an additional $20 per person for both members and non-members.

Each participant will receive two books:  a copy of the Land Trust Standards and Practices curriculum workbook Evaluating and Selecting Conservation Projects and Protecting Surface Water Quality with Conservation Easements.  These books will be used during the training, and may be used as a future reference and a model for implementing important aspects of the topics that will be covered in this training.
